ABOUT THIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The professional development program we developed for the iLEAD Teams included a multi-faceted series of prompts and activities to support team building between the educators, administrators staff, and leaders of the iLEAD branches from throughout Los Angeles County. The event was facilitated by SCV Adventure Play Foundation Co-Founders, Jeremiah Dockray and Erica Larsen and Jan Kirsch, Director of Professional Development at Inner-City Arts.

We worked with the iLEAD Maker Team to coordinate the participants including each one bringing loose parts such as cardboard boxes of various sizes and loose parts to use throughout the day. The 250 individuals were broken into 18 teams based on assigned icons. These icons were spaced throughout the room on floating balloons with bags of loose parts at each icon.
The day consisted of prompts for creation and reflection. The prompts were scaffolded so the teams started with small sound making objects and concluded with building a fort which the entire time could fit into.

Reflection prompts were focused on team dynamics such as roles in the workplace being shifted in the activities, such as stepping up or stepping back from our usual roles in teams to observe experiences in a new way, and also how these experiences and new perspectives can be applied to their work with learners in their schools.
