ABOUT OUR NATURE MUSE CLASSES
SPRING SESSION:
MONDAY MORNINGS JANUARY 28TH-MARCH 25THPOSTPONED
A one of a kind educational experience where nature is our muse! Classes take place outdoors at the Eureka Villa Adventure Playground on its 2 acres of wild natural space. Classes focus on creative responses to nature through the arts, sciences, humanities and more! Students will be exposed to a variety of creative projects both short and long term. Co-taught by a musician, an artist and a naturalist/adventure guide, the classes tap into each instructor's specialty.
Classes are designed for 2 different age groups: 5 to 7 years and 8 years and older. Both classes are slated to run for all the age groups so parents can have their children participate in both on the same day if they desire.

Class Description:​
A one of a kind educational experience where we explore the interplay between nature and music! Classes focus on creative responses to nature and on nature’s profound ability to inspire artists, particularly composers, songwriters, dancers, etc. Students will be exposed to a variety of creative projects both short and long term.
We will explore the existing flora and fauna on the site and their possibilities for creative expression including attuning ourselves to musical experiences organically present in nature, creating instruments from items found in nature and loose parts, adding musical components to the existing space, exploring musical "moments" within the site, and more.

Class Description:
Every other week we will focus on the arts where we will study artists and cultures who create art and artifacts in tandem with the earth. We will explore the existing flora and fauna on the site and their possibilities for creative expression including journal sketching, creating artistic spaces and "moments" within the site, using the different natural materials to create different art works and more.
Alternate weeks will focus on our existence with and against the earth and how we can be good stewards of our planet. Practices of primitive and native cultures as well as modern day approaches will be explored. Minimizing our impact on the environment and working with the earth’s abundance guides our weeks’ topics.

INSTRUCTORS
MUSIC | JENNIFER FISCHER
Jennifer Fischer has been teaching piano privately in the area since 2005. She is an active teaching artist who has taught music and film at various schools throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. She has also written award-winning curricula for various clients.
She holds an M.A. from Harvard University in Middle Eastern Studies; her thesis, "Songs of Palestine," included a documentary short film on the topic, which she directed and produced. She has arranged and performed music for multiple shorts films. While at Harvard, she played the harpsichord as a member of an early music chamber ensemble. Jennifer received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College where she studied music with Carsten Schmidt. Prior to that, she studied with Caroline True at Trinity University and Kent Cook at DePauw University where she received a music scholarship.

NATURE ADVOCACY | BREE LAZDALE
Hi my name is Bree! I am a Mama & Children's Advocate who has formal training & education background in Child Development. I am also extending my training & experience as a naturalist & adventure guide to introduce school-age children to botany, reraric ecology, astronomy, ethnobotany, primitive living skills & anything outdoors.
I help build garden's in children's schools & share stories of Indigenous women on a 7 month tour through U.S. National Parks. Community building opportunities & creative collaboration are my jam!
ART | ERICA LARSEN-DOCKRAY
Erica Larsen-Dockray is a Nebraskan native living in Los Angeles. Her interests include interactive work and projection as a medium and often taps into human rights issues. She has studied both Graphic Design and Painting and Drawing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2003 she received a BA in Animation and Media Arts from the Art Institute of Phoenix and in 2009 a BFA and later an MFA in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2012. She is an occasional adjunct faculty at CalArts, is a teaching artist at Inner-City Arts, and the Founder and Director of The Calibraska Arts Initiative [www.calibraska.org].

Erica has travelled the world making wacky collaborative works and installations involving animation, video, painting, dance, live music, games, dark rides, interactive stations, performance, and beyond. She loves candy coating dark issues and using play as a device to spark discussion and involvement.
